How to Choose a Mini Laptop Or Netbook Computer

Posted by best buy on Jan 2, 2012 in Tips and Technic

Mini laptops or netbooks are the new category of laptops, they are designed as a secondary system that you can carry anywhere you go. Their size is a little bigger than a paperback book, they weigh less than 3 pounds and have battery-saving features. Mini laptop displays are about 7 to 10 inches together with about 512MB to 1GB of RAM and a traditional hard drive. Unlike other laptops, netbooks have slower energy saving processors, so games won’t run as well.

If you are in the market for a netbook here are some things to look for and watch out for:

Tablet Netbook

First you have to know what you want to use it for and what your budget it. If you are looking for a full featured laptop computer then don’t buy a mini laptop or netbook. The processor of a netbook is less powerful than a common laptop, this is to provide longer battery life. Mini laptops are good for doing homework on a word processing program, surfing the internet, working on spreadsheets or other office work and presentations.

Buy a netbook with a screen size of 8.9 inch or larger, because if your screen is small the disadvantage is you won’t be able to read an entire web page. This is less of a problem if you have a larger screen.

Get a 6 cell battery for it will offer you a whole lot more running time compared to the standard 3 cell batter. Aside from the additional cost you may find it a little heavier, but I think the trade-offs are worth it.

Try out the keypad first, and see if you’re comfortable with it.

Also check the software that comes pre-installed. Is it everything you need?

Shop around, list all the prices you find and compare them.

Do not load heavy applications on your mini laptop, since they are mini they do not have as much memory compared to normal laptops. It is also important for you to know which operating system is best for your mini laptop. Here is some information of the two most commonly used operating systems on mini laptops.

Linux: It considerably lessens the chance of a malware attack because of its smaller user base. The makers also designed its interface to be as easy as windows. There is just one disadvantage, you might have a hard time installing new programs and may need to do some tinkering in the command line. On the whole Linux is getting easier to use all the time, but I would still say only more computer savvy people should choose it for now.

Windows: This is mainly the most common operating system for mini laptops. This OS is compatible with almost every accessory or software program in the market. But because of their massive market share, they are targeted by malware attacks. So you have to have a strong security program.

Mini laptops are much cheaper compared to a normal laptops. So it is easier for you top find a cheap mini laptop deal online. Today there are lots of trustworthy sites online, and if you are not sure if they can be trusted you could always check reviews of them online.

Notebook Or Netbook – What to Buy For 500 Dollars?

Posted by best buy on Jan 1, 2012 in Tips and Technic

You might have noticed that netbooks are around and they’re not going to go anytime soon. With their low price and their small size they appeal to many new customers and no wonder why; for the amount of money you can get a decent computer without having to deal with refurbished units.

It’s a very common question, whether someone should buy a netbook or a notebook for a given amount of money, and the budget is also always tight. It may benefit the former but the latter option has its say as well once the limit is close to 0.

Tablet Netbook

When the money you have available is near to the price of the average netbook, you don’t really have many options to choose from. For 0 or 0 there is no new notebook you can buy so it’s a clear win for the minis, but once the game is up by a hundred, some value notebooks enter the field.

Value notebooks are almost always 15.6″, 50% bigger in diameter than the average netbook. This can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on your opinion about the matter. Some people say they can’t work on such a small screen; others would never change it for anything else. Unless you tried both for yourself, you can’t decide between the two without being biased.

Cheap laptops are also often fitted with the cheapest components possible. Even though the LCD panel is big it can be of low quality, or a strain on the eyes. When you go for this category, make sure that you opt for LED backlit panels that you’ve seen during operation.

Netbooks are popular for their battery time, 5 hours is the low end, Asus offers units that go for 12-14 hours on a single charge. You have to look really hard to see anything above 5 hours when it comes to laptop; in the price range of 0 you are very unlikely to find any. A more common sight is a less convenient 2 or 2.5 hours.

For 0 you can get a 1201N from Asus with dual core 1.66GHz Atom processor and Nvidia ION platform that offers a discrete video chip and 5 hours of uptime. This is more than enough all basic tasks most people come across, but if you really need more horse power than that, make sure that you don’t settle with the cheapest 15″ you can find. You need at least a 1.8 – 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor in the bigger one for it to worth giving the long battery time up.

Apple iPad Versus Netbook – Making a Choice

Posted by best buy on Jan 1, 2012 in Tips and Technic

The question many people have today is whether it is worth buying an Apple iPad or go with a netbook, notebook or laptop as their computing device. That is a choice worthy of a lot of consideration even though the iPad is selling very well right now. From my point of view, it would seem that the loss of computing power by choosing the iPad over a computer would make a real difference. Many people, however, like the portability and ease of use of the less functional iPad. My using the words less functional may make the iPad seem inferior but it’s really a matter of how much you want out of a computing device. I will make my point by making a few comparisons.

Starting with the size and weight of the iPad compared to a netbook, the 1.5 pound tablet has a definite advantage. The 9.7″ screen is fine, but still smaller than the 10″ plus screens of netbooks and notebooks.

Tablet Netbook

The processing power of a netbook is only a little bigger for a netbook vs. the iPad. The 1GHz A4 is good enough to browse the internet and read e-books but not as versatile as a system with the Windows 7 operating system.

If you need a lot of storage then a 2.5″ hard drive has an advantage over a 16GB static storage iPad. You also have the ability to change the hard drive as well as having additional USB ports to use.

The iPhone operating system versus Windows 7 works well with the iPad since Apple worked hard to tweak that system. No advantage with Windows 7.

The on screen keyboard for the iPad seems to be lacking in comfort, although the multi-touch screen is great to see in action. Nevertheless, a real keyboard is necessary for tactile feel especially if you do a lot of typing, like word processing for example.

The huge amount software available for the iPad through the Appstore seems very attractive at first blush. However, full length, installed software, is very important for people that demand multi-functionality from their machine.

It all seems to boil down to this: if you are looking to consume content like surfing the internet with an easy to use, highly portable device then the iPad is for you. On the other hand, if you want more functionality than surfing the internet and reading e-books, then you need to consider a slightly less portable netbook or notebook.
